Sharon Rooks and her Therapy Dog Rowdy

Hi, my name is Sharon and Rowdy is my Therapy Dog. Rowdy is a Shetland Sheepdog and is four years old. He holds titles in obedience and agility and someday (maybe) he will have a tracking title. His most important accomplishment is, however, his therapy work.

He is a friendly, outgoing boy who loves everyone. He does a few tricks like a chin-up, playing dead when I say bang, rolling over, and jumping into my arms. He also does some obedience demonstrations and agility demonstrations when we do a program.

He loves children and senior citizens alike and seems to understand when someone needs a few extra minutes of his time.

He has always given me so much joy just by being himself. He tries so hard to please and to figure out what it is that this silly person wants him to do.

I enjoy him so much and sharing him with others just compounds that enjoyment. I hope that he brings love and joy to those that we visit.

Promise is just 10 months old so not old enough to be a therapy dog, but she is in training. She seems to love the visits and even though she hasn't mastered tricks yet, she does do some basic obedience and agility work.

At home when she gets a treat she's not too gentle (in other words be careful of your fingers) but at nursing homes she takes treats from the residents so gently. I have to wonder how she knows to be so careful.

I think with time she's going to make a great little therapy dog.
