Therapy Dog Maya

NO WAIT! That should read Therapy Dog Maya and her human Judith!

Maya is a Standard Poodle that loves to do her job as a Therapy Dog. When I ask her if she is ready to go be a Therapy Dog her eyes light up and she bounds around the house until I put on her special collar and bandana. The one thing Maya is best at is making people feel loved. Where ever she goes, to nursing homes, schools, or just to visit friends, she is always there to make you laugh and to give you hugs.

Maya completed basic obedience training with a first place trophy and continued on to obedience classes at POTC in Parkersburg. There she was tested and awarded her CGC ( Canine Good Citizen ) and was recommened for Therapy work. I knew she really was not into being obedience trained and I thought maybe this would be better for her anyway. As it turns out, she is a natural for giving love and entertainment.

There are only a few little things that Maya does and those are standing for exam and then taking a bow afterwards, and the basic heeling and sitting and staying that we all do. She does a recall very well, but likes to clown around when it comes to finishing her act, but that's ok because the people watching think it's funny. Perhaps she knows that and does it just to get a laugh? She loves hugging and kissing, the two things she does naturally. I enjoy being Maya's human while she is doing her Therapy work, as it gives me a chance to see the smiles of those she comes in contact with and the way she lights up their faces. I wouldn't miss that for the world. And watching her interact with those that need just a little something special, make it all worth while.

When not at work, Maya's favorite thing to do is go to the farm. She much prefers the burrs and bushes to being groomed and poofed as a poodle. She enjoys her friend Zeke as we walk through the woods and is always looking for a rabbit or something to chase. She also enjoys floating around on the pond with me in the summertime.

Maya has an overwhelming amount of love for people and life....
She is a wonderful and fun dog to have around. : )
