Therapy Dogs Oreo and Whisper

Oreo was featured in the AKC Gazette in April 1999 as a little dog with abilities in agility and beyond. Her accomplishments: AKC Titled Tracking Dog, an AKC Titled Obedience Companion Dog Excellent, an AKC Master Agility Dog, we traveled to Chicago in 1997 for a Fourth Place at the Pupperoni Agility Classic, 1998 Third place Winner Pupperoni Agility Classic in Indianapolis, 1999 placed 8th at the AKC National Agility Championships in Atlanta Georgia, and at the National Agility Classic in August of 2000 in Louisville Kentucky she placed First. She was noted by the Gazette in 1999, however to be first and foremost a piano playing therapy dog!

Oreo has been making the rounds of nursing homes and schools working with kids and adults for most of her 8 years of age. She is a little gray now but the kids and adults seem to love her spunk as she retrieves or does her scent articles as an mind reading trick or as she plays basketball or plays the piano. Oreo loves to dress up in holiday costumes or wear bandanas. Audiences love it when I tell her to stay and as I turn my back to walk away she scoots forward but when I look back at her she looks completely innocent and as if she never moved. I truly believe she delights in their snickers! She has been the light of my therapy work when I see the smiles she can bring with her antics.

Whitecrest Whispering Faith is titled in AKC obedience and is working on her Master Agility Championship Title. In addition Whisper placed 6th at the National Agility Classic 2000 in Louisville Ky and 14th place at the AKC National Agility Championships at Springfield Mass.

Whisper has been entertaining audiences with therapy visits for most of her 3 years. Her serious show poodle clip made for some interesting observations! The folks young and old love to cuddle her soft fur in her casual clip for training in agility and tracking. Whisper is learning some fun things to do on therapy visits by watching Oreo! We use obedience and agility training exercises to do "tricks" for our vists. One smile at a time, I have seen therapy dogs find a room full of smiles where minutes before there were none.
